An adventurous centenarian with a penchant for Chinese food has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mrs Sylvia Hutson turned 100 on Tuesday, March 19, and celebrated with a party at her home in Morden where she lives with her daughter, and at the Merton and Morden Guild social club.

She will also be going out for Chinese food with her family which her daughter, Janet Printy, said Chinese is her favourite food adding that she "loves an Indian too."

Mrs Printy described her mum as a "strong character" who likes to keep busy and loves to dress up adding that she thinks she looks great for 100.

Mrs Hutson, of Martin Grove, has been inundated with cards but said she was "really pleased" to receive one from the Queen.

Born in Cardiff, Mrs Hutson moved to London to work as a live-in doctor’s receptionist when she was 21.

She then worked in service for the Emery family who made dresses for one of the big stores in Knightsbridge before marrying and starting a family in Putney.

Following the death of her first husband Mrs Hutson re-married and moved to Morden where she has lived ever since.

She carried on working until she was in her eighties which is why her daughter thinks she has lived so long.

Mrs Hutson said she had a "wonderful time" on her birthday and had "thoroughly enjoyed" the day.
