Parents are being reminded that they may qualify for free childcare.

Two year old children registered with their local children’s centre could be eligible for 15 hours of care over a 38 week period from September.

Councillor Christine Percival, Richmond’s cabinet member for education, youth and children’s services said the care would be high quality and flexible for parents.

She said: “With surveys showing that many families are being forced to spend more than a quarter of their income on childcare, this scheme will be of considerable benefit to parents who are having difficulty in meeting the cost.

“It will also greatly improve the chances for our children and provide a great start for them as they begin their educational life.

“I encourage everyone to see if they are eligible and ensure their child has the best start in life and can go on to fulfil their potential.”
