Legendary film director Richard Attenborough, who sold his Richmond home last year, has moved into a care home with his wife because of his deteriorating health.

The 89-year-old and wife Sheila Sim, 90, who suffers from senile dementia, moved into the home, which caters for elderly and sick entertainers.

Last year, Lord and Lady Attenborough sold their property Beaver Lodge in Richmond for £11.5m.

Lord Attenborough, who is star of films including Jurassic Park and Flight of the Phoenix, has suffered from health problems from a head wound he sustained in 2008 after falling over and going into a coma.

The director of Oscar-winning film Gandhi and brother of wildlife guru David Attenborough – who lives in nearby Isleworth – suffered a suspected stroke in 2008 and now finds it difficult to communicate and get around.
