A poster designed by a Kingston University student hopes to crackdown on loan sharks when it is displayed around the town centre, writes Nicholas Godden.

Fashion postgraduate student Garfield Kar C Li was the winner of a Kingston University Students’ Union competition to find an eye-catching design to help draw attention to the dangers of loan sharks.

The competition was commissioned by Kingston Council’s trading standards team and aimed to warn people against turning to illegal lenders.

Councillor Simon James, lead member with responsibility for trading standards, said: "Garfield’s striking poster helps to highlight our message that loan sharks can have a devastating impact on families."

Credit union such as the Kingston Savers which is run by Kingston Voluntary Action is a safe and legal way to borrow money.
