Details of this year's Kingston May Merrie have been released - featuring a whole host of activities for people of all ages.

Taking place on Monday, May 6, the theme for the annual bank holiday festival this year is "play" and attendees will have a lot of opportunities to join in the fun.

There will be giant versions of popular children's games including Hungry Hippos, Kerplunk and Magnetic Fishing, as well as a giant paper plane competition to celebrate Kingston's aviation past.

Live music will come courtesy of bands appearing over two stages and several buskers who will be performing in town.

Meanwhile, circus performers will be wowing the crowds in the town centre, while a photo competition will collect the best snaps from the day and post them on Twitter and Facebook.

Ros Morgan, chief executive of Kingston First, said: "The Kingston May Merrie will be a fun day for everyone with the town celebrating its rich heritage through ‘play’.

"There will be a lot of different elements this year for people to join in with making Kingston the only place to be on Bank Holiday Monday."

Kingston May Merrie runs from noon to 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6.

Events will take place across the town centre including Kingston Market Place, the Memorial Gardens, Eden Walk, Eagle Brewery Wharf and Clarence Street.
