Olympic medallist and triple world champion gymnast Beth Tweddle has officially opened an expanded Chessington primary school.
The sporting star who took bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games (and also won ITV’s Dancing on Ice show this year), visited Ellingham Primary School yesterday (March 25).
She officially unveiled the expanded school which students began using before the summer games.
Ellingham Primary School’s rebuild and redesign under the Primary Expansion Programme took 15 months to complete.
The school now also has classrooms named after Olympians including Miss Tweddle.
Headteacher Sarah Creegan said: “The children were very excited to meet Beth, we feel very honoured.
“The school is committed to Olympic and Paralympic values which we display on the walls.
“The school followed Beth closely on Dancing on Ice too.
"We showed the children clips of the show in assemblies to reinforce lessons about resilience, reflectiveness and responsibility.”
Guests at the school’s official opening included twin brothers John and Rob Christmas who were students at the school when it opened in 1955 and are now teachers.
