A panel behind a review of hospital services has thanked patients and residents for sharing their views at a meeting last week.

Better Services, Better Value (BSBV) hosted a drop-in session at Bourne Hall, Ewell, on Wednesday which gave 140 people the chance to speak with clinicians involved in decisions.

Last week, campaigners expressed frustration that the panel's minds had already been made up because of the way the review was being handled.

After the session, a BSBV spokeswoman said: "We are grateful to those who attended for sharing their views and we will continue to engage with residents."

She said the event was designed to listen rather than present information to residents at discussion tables on six clinical areas including maternity and A&E services.

She said they heard concerns about travel, public transport and parking at hospitals but also support for out-of-hospital, planned care and urgent care centres.

She said: "We learned there was a lot of incorrect information circulating in the community and we were very pleased to provide residents with clear facts about the proposals and work so far."

The review, which could see Epsom Hospital lose its A&E and maternity units, has been delayed to allow further consultation with people in Surrey.

The hospital became part of the controversial review after its planned merger with another Ashford and St Peter's Hospital collapsed last year.
