A 14-year-old girl was hit by a car while running for a bus this morning in Hook, according to witnesses.
The accident happened on the A243 Hook Road, near Clayton Road, at 7.32am, and involved a BMW.
Witness James Milligan, 33, said: “The poor young girl was running across the road to catch the 465 bus and she was hit.
"She was in quite a bad way. I was with the driver and the driver was in a state of shock. I saw it all.”
Steve McManus, manager of Surrey Premier Meats in Hook Parade, said there was “absolutely loads” of ambulance activity as he made his way into work.
Traffic was diverted around the area, he said, as a person was lying in the road.
London Ambulance and the South East Coast service treated the girl before taking her to hospital.
The road re-opened after a temporary closure.
A Kingston police spokeswoman said: "Police attended a road traffic collision on Hook Road, on the corner of Shere Close, shortly after 7.30am today. A teenage girl was in collision with a BMW.
"The driver was interviewed at the scene. No arrests were made. Her family have been informed.
"The girl was taken to hospital with leg and head injuries.
"At this stage her injuries are not thought to be life threatening."
