A man was found hiding face-down behind a hedge after a police helicopter search.
The police were called just before 3am on Monday morning after someone spotted two men acting suspiciously in Gurney Road, Carshalton.
The police helicopter and a dog handler were drafted in to look for the men and found a 26-year-old man hiding behind a hedge in Gurney Road.
They were unable to trace the other man who ran into Papermill Close, Carshalton.
Police enquiries found lead had been stolen from a porch and an attempt had been made to steal the metal from next door.
The 26-year-old man was arrested and received caution for theft.
The lead was not recovered.
