A man arrested on suspicion of supplying the gun used to murder a family from Claygate has been released without charge.

The unnamed man was arrested last month in Geneva, Switzerland, less than an hour’s drive from the crime scene in Lake Annecy, France, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The suspect was held “for a number of days” but denied all knowledge of the gun, it was reported.

Saad al-Hilli, 50, of Oaken Lane, his wife Iqbal, 47 and his mother in law, Suhaila al-Allaf, 74, were all shot dead in their car in the French Alps in September last year.

A French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier, 45, was also shot dead.

It is believed that all four victims, who were killed by shots to the head, were killed with a Luger P08.

The gun was standard issue for the Swiss army between 1900 and 1945 and had the capacity of eight rounds.

French prosecutors are now preparing to extend the investigation to the Al-Hillis’ native Iraq.
