A man who subjected a taxi driver to an "horrific and unprovoked" attack outside a Battersea pub has been jailed for 20 months.

Jake Skipper, 26, from Hertfordshire, brutally assaulted his victim outside the Lost Angel pub, in Battersea Park Road, in the early hours of November 3, 2012.

The victim, whose brother was murdered last year in a similar attack, was left with bruising to the brain and a fractured skull.

Earlier in the evening, Skipper had started arguing with the victim inside the pub before he was thrown out by concerned staff.

But witnesses said Skipper returned 10 minutes later and knocked the man to the ground before launching into a violent and sustained attack.

A member of the public tried to intervene but he was also attacked and needed hospital treatment.

Detective Sergeant MacNamara said: "This horrific attack has had a devastating impact on the victim.

"The suspect was successfully convicted as a result of public and police working together. Two of the witnesses who came forward showed extreme courage.

"Their brother was murdered in an attack, which bore striking resemblance to this attack, however they were determined to assist police despite bringing back painful memories."

Skipper, who admitted grevous bodily harm at Kingston Crown Court on March 20, was ordered to pay £3,000 in compensation.
