Two efit images have been released of suspects Surrey Police want to speak to about conning more than £1,000 from an elderly Esher resident.

The victim, a woman in her 80s, received an unknown caller at her door during the morning of Friday, March 8, who claimed to be from trading standards.

The suspect handed over what the woman believed was an identification badge and asked for a phone number for further contact.

Late the same day, the victim received two phone calls, reportedly from trading standards, claiming they had individuals in custody and needed her to pay money as part of the investigation process.

The woman withdrew the requested cash and handed it to a second man who came to her address.

The first caller was a white man, in his late 20s, around 5ft 9in, slim with short, curly, fair hair and a plump face.

He was wearing a navy jumper with Armani, written in white, and navy trousers.

The second caller was a white man, about 5ft 9in, stocky, with short, straight, brown hair.

He was clean shaven but of scruffy appearance and was wearing a dark jacket and dark trousers. He spoke with an Irish accent.

Detective Constable Chris Ewan said: “I would urge members of the public to take a good look at these e-fit images and consider whether you could have information about either of the men involved in this scam.

“As is most often the case with these kinds of incidents, they have targeted a lone, elderly woman in her own home, and I would also urge people to let elderly family and friends know that this isn't how Trading Standards or any other organisation would work.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference EL/13/1493 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
