Three flatmates who were caught on their way back from a burglary have been sentenced to a total of 36 months in jail.

Robert Rakus, 31, Pitor Rakus, 35, and Artur Smolinski, 33, were stopped at by police at the junction of The Crescent and Belmont Rise on Tuesday, October 23.

Police found bank cards, a wallet, a sat nav, a games console a laptop and other items stolen during a burglary in Reigate Road, Epsom, earlier that day.

Officers also found equipment including hammers, wrenches and torches.

The trio, who all live in Chaucer House in Chaucer Gardens, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on where Pitor Rakus and Smolinski were sentenced to ten months each in prison on March 15 and Robert Rakus was given 16 months on March 22.

All three admitted burglary.

The car was stopped by PC Pat White as part of Operation CUBO, a London-wide initiative to combat drivers without insurance and licences.

The BMW the men were driving was uninsured and was later destroyed.
