A suspected firearm has been discovered in a flat in Hackbridge.

This morning police carried out a series of drugs raids across Sutton as part of the Met-wide Operation Hawk.

Officers forced entry to a one-bedroom flat in Sandmartin Way and found a small quantity of cannabis and a firearm wrapped in clothing by the front door.

Three men in their 20s were arrested for possession of drugs and a suspected firearm.

At another address in Welbeck Road, Carshalton, a woman in her 30s was arrested for cultivation of cannabis and abstraction of electricity after 30-40 plants were discovered in a front bedroom.

In Chestnut Close, Carshalton, an 18-year-old man was arrested for possession of cannabis and officers seized £2,500 cash.

A man was also arrested at an address in Central Road Worcester Park for possession of cannabis.

Nick Collins Chief inspector at Sutton Police Station said: “Residents should not have to put up with drugs related criminals in their local neighbourhoods.

“Report these criminals and we will take action and make it stop - and make your neighbourhood a better and safer place to live.

"We know drugs are a root cause of burglary because burglars sell their spoils to feed their drugs habits.”
