Battersea Dogs Home's longest-serving resident has been adopted after spending almost half her life in kennels.

Stray dog Maisy the mongrel had been at the charity for 431 days before Sally and Malcolm Crockford, from Guildford, rehomed her.

Maisy first arrived at the world famous charity on New Year’s Day, 2011.

Like 55 per cent of dogs that come in to Battersea, two-year-old Maisy was brought in as a stray after she was found wandering the streets.

She was at the charity 12 times longer than the average stay for a dog before finding her dream home.

Mrs Crockford said: "It didn’t take long for Maisy to settle in with us, she’s made herself at home very quickly.

"She’s such a character, I’ve never met a dog that’s so smart. She has us laughing all the time and she’s very inquisitive.

"Maisy is such a wonderful dog - we couldn’t be happier."
