An estate agent has been fined £400 for failing to remove fly tipped waste from its land.
Gani & Co of Commonside Business Park, Commonside West in Mitcham were issued a legal notice by Croydon Council reminding the company of their responsibility to clear fly tipped waste from their land.
Despite writing to them on "several occasions" the company failed to remove waste which continually built up outside a block of flats at 278-312 Old Lodge Lane, Purley.
On Tuesday, March 19 at Croydon Magistrates’ Court, Gani & Co pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £400 and ordered to pay clear-up costs and legal fees.
When fly tipped waste is on public land it is the council’s responsibility to remove it, however when on private land it is the responsibility of the land owner.
