Sutton & Cheam Swimming Club have 31 medals going into the final weekend of  the Surrey County Swimming Championships.

After four meetings of individual endeavour, the club are lying eighth in the medals table, with four golds, 16 silver and 11 bronze gongs – and they are aiming for more.

Top of the club tree was William Ward, 13, who won three golds, two silvers and two bronze medals to finish 10th overall in his age group, despite missing one weekend due to illness.

Nathan Eves, 14, won a gold and silver in the longer distance freestyle races, while Michael Rees, 12, won nine silver and four bronze medals to finish second overall in his age group.

Athena Lewis Gkogka, pictured, 16, won two silvers and a bronze, and Teao Hughes, 14, won a silver and a bronze.

Jake Meffan, 17, won two bronze, April Hedges, 11,  won silver in the 50m backstroke.

Tomas Gibson, 12, won silver in the 50m freestyle.

Despite not winning any medals a number of swimmers showed their all-round ability by finishing well in their age group: Kieran Rutter, 12, finished eighth; Imogen Smith, 10, finished 10th; Joseph Lenihan, 11, finished 11th; Adam Smith, 13, finished 12th; and Joe Phillpott-Clark was also 12th in the 14-year age group.

This was particularly pleasing to squad coaches Jim Walker, Helen Andrews and Alec Eves who would like to say a big well done to all the qualifiers this year:
