An up-and-coming Surbiton comedian will be filming her fourth show at the Ram Jam Club this week.

Award-winning comic Diane Spencer, who has been compared to Joan Rivers and Jim Jeffries, will perform her latest show, Exquisite Bad Taste.

She says: “I am one of those naturally calamitous people, so I will be telling stories and actual jokes and punch lines.

“I wanted to write about something important to me, like for example people will make fun of my red hair straight away.”

Her portrayal of red-heads has attracted the interest of a production company that will film some of her jokes for the first ever English Red-head UK day.

She says: “There is one festival in Denmark already and she has organised the first ever English one, which is ironically going to be held in June.”

She has performed at a range of venues from the Edinburgh festival to the back of a comedy club, which she says is a more realistic representation of stand-up than Live at the Apollo.

She says: “It would have gone through so many censors by then, agents and producers and all that politics.”

Having lived as far as New Zealand, she has returned to Surbiton where she grew up.

She went to school at Coombe Hill and Surbiton High, and has regularly performed at the Ram Jam Club.

She says: “The Ram Jam Club is a great room for comedy. The guy that runs the club is such a good guy in terms of supporting live acts.

“If you do not go to live comedy or festivals then you’ll only see a small representation of how many comics there actually are.”
