A ballet company founded by a celebrated Austrian dancer is set to perform Sleeping Beauty.

Vienna Festival Ballet (VFB), which was founded by Peter Mallek with the aim of passing on his love of classical ballet 33 years ago, presents the classic fairy tale at Leatherhead Theatre.

Mallek performed with national ballet companies around the world after training in Vienna under Russian teacher Harry Plucis, a former pupil of ballet master Pushkin.

The ballet company is looking forward to performing composer Tchaikovsky's great classic Sleeping Beauty, which portrays the struggle between good and evil.

At the start of the ballet, wicked fairy Carabosse lays a curse on Princess Aurora and proclaims she will one day prick her finger and die.

But the Lilac Fairy intervenes and instead of dying the princess and the entire palace instead fall into a deep sleep.

A century later, Prince Florimund must overcome obstacles laid in his way to awaken the princess with a kiss.

Dancers will wear lavish handmade costumes and headdresses for the ballet.

VFB's talented dancers including graduates from the Royal Ballet School and guest stars from Vienna and Japan.

The company tour for eight months a year and puts on about 200 performances mainly in the UK.
