A thief tricked his way into an 82-year-old woman's home so he could steal £20.

The pensioner was at home in Basinghall Gardens, Sutton, when the unknown caller arrived at her door at around 2pm on April 10.

The man asked if he could use her phone to call someone named Shirley and started to read out a long phone number to the woman.

Mid-way through calling out the number he asked if she needed her glasses to help her and started moving towards her bedroom.

The pensioner became suspicious and told the man to get out of her house. It was only when the man had gone she noticed her wallet, containing £20, had also disappeared.

The thief is white, around 35-years-old and was clean-shaven with short hair. He was wearing a knee-length, light-coloured coat and dark trousers.
