BIKER Dave Avery has set himself a challenging ride of a road tour of England, Scotland and Wales.

The 45-year-old who lives in Poole is cramming in the three countries in three days, travelling 2,500 miles on his trusty Pan European ST1300 bike.

He sets out on May 24 with the aim of raising £3,000 for Cancer Research UK after in the last three years both his parents died of cancer and his sister-in-law is now battling the disease.

“Last year I rode 1,000 miles in 24 hours,” said Dave, who works as a health and safety adviser. “If I want to raise more money I have to up it a bit.”

So when he sets out he knows he has to ride his bike 800 miles a day to cover the distance, anticipating he will spend 14 hours a day on the road.

He will head east along the south coast to Margate, then go inland up the east side to Edinburgh, over the Forth Bridge to a night stop at Kinross.

Day two will take him north to John O’Groats then down the west coast to Glasgow and Warrington for his second overnight stay.

His final day will see him ride around Wales, to Bristol, Land’s End and back home to Poole.

“It’s a long old ride but I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

The father of two’s wife Deborah will be among his support group and he has secured sponsorship from Chris Lippitt of Smart Riders in Christchurch, who is paying his costs including for the 10 tanks of petrol he will need.
