Tesco shoppers in Molesey have donated more than half a tonne of food to East Elmbridge Foodbank.
At Hurst Park Tesco, 596.6kg of food was donated on May 11, after shoppers were asked by Foodbank volunteers to donate an extra item from their shopping to help feed local people facing crisis.
Lou Devine, East Elmbridge Foodbank co-ordinator, said: “It always amazes me how generous people are when we ask them to donate an item of food.
“People often tell us they are more than happy to donate an extra tin of beans or packet of biscuits as they can see the tangible effects of their help. And it is always lovely to see children getting involved in donating.”
All the food given out by East Elmbridge Foodbank is donated by the public.
Paula Wales, manager at Hurst Park Tesco, said: “We are committed to supporting the community and it was wonderful to see local people come together for the benefit of those in need in the local area.”
