More than 100 nurses and midwives celebrated the care they give at a commemorative day this month.

Staff from Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals went to a pride in nursing and midwifery day on Friday, May 17, to celebrate care and share best practice across both hospitals.

Opening the event, chief executive Andrew Liles said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to take time out with you to celebrate all the great things our nurses, midwives and support staff do every day caring for patients in our hospitals.

“We know from feedback that you give so much great care to our patients, and I want us to keep on working together so that we can give the very best care to every patient, every time.”

The group was also addressed by Clare Stone, chief nurse at NHS North West Surrey Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), who spoke of the new organisation’s emphasis on quality of care for patients.

She said: “We are a clinically led organisation and our plans for engagement with local people and our partners will help improve integration between hospital, community and social care services.

“We need to work together to provide better support for frail elderly people in the community, who may otherwise end up in hospital as an emergency.”
