A seven-year-old pupil from Hurlingham School in Putney has won a national poetry competition.
Freya Murphy’s winning poem, Creepy Crawlies, is about a cockroach and will be published in the next book in the Felicity Fly series.
The poetry competition, Eight Line Rhymes, has been backed by Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education.
Upon being presented with her certificate as the national winner, Freya said she felt "brilliant" and "really proud" of her poem.
Christina Gabbitas, mastermind of the Eight Line Rhyme competition, said: "I received lots of fabulously imaginative writing from all corners of the UK; the very best were chosen by a panel of fourteen judges and some of the most impressive poems will be published in a special national rhyming poetry book."
Jonathan Brough, headmaster of Hurlingham School, said: "Freya’s success is the latest in an impressive portfolio of prizes and accolades achieved by the children and the whole school joined him in celebrating her imminent debut as a published poet."
