Croydon's new GP group has agreed to put forward members to make a final decision on the BSBV proposals going to public consultation.
Croydon Clinical Commissioning Groupmet in public earlier today, to consider the Better Services Better Value (BSBV) review of health services in south west London and were the last of seven CCGs affected by the review, to vote in favour of the proposed options going to public consultation.
Under the preferred and alternative options, Croydon University Hospital will remain a major acute hospital, with full A&E and maternity services.
John Goulston, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust chief executive, welcomed the CCG's decision to put forward members.
He said: "The hospital is included in two of these as a major site, with A&E and maternity services. This means more patients will receive treatment at the places where they are currently seen, while getting consistent and compassionate care.
"We are investing in quality across the Trust including emergency care. This together with the aims of BSBV offers patients, families and staff, the confidence to know that the right health care is in place to meet their needs.
"Croydon is one of the most densely populated places in London - people should have access to a hospital with the staff and services to treat them when they need it most.
"It is absolutely right that they can also add their voice to discussions about the future of services through the consultation."
