An out-of-control barbecue destroyed a summer house this afternoon causing a plume of smoke to tower above Cheam.
The lunchtime barbecue got out of hand and set light to a wooden summer house in a garden in Cheyham Way shortly after 1pm today.
A crew from Sutton fire station was called to the incident and used a hose reel to deal with the blaze. No-one was hurt.
A fire service spokesman urged people to be careful when they barbecue and never leave them unsupervised, never use them indoors, make sure they are well away from your home or other structures and never to use petrol or paraffin to light them.
