A water incident database is being kept of incidents to see where improvements can be made.

A report into the riverside, backed by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has said it is satisfied with the review, records five incidents.

A young adult fell off the wall at Eagle Brewery Wharf onto the pontoon below suffering serious head injuries.

There were three fatalities between Eagle Brewery Wharf and Kingston Bridge. Two people entered the water of their own accord and the third incident remains unsolved.

In Canbury Gardens there was an alleged suicide.

The report said: “In the past it has been difficult to contact the RLNI [at Teddington] using a quick effective communication such as airwave radio.

“Agreement has been sought from the RNLI to add the Kingston Council CCTV control centre to the Thames One Airwave. This means that the control room can now talk directly to the coastguard and RLNI lifeboat.”

John Elwell, borough fire commander for Kingston, said: "Tragically, people have entered the Thames from the Kingston shoreline with an ignorance of the dangers from the currents and cold water temperatures, which can quickly overcome those in the river, leading to fatalities.

“The consumption of alcohol also significantly increases the risk of drowning to those entering the river.”
