A man who told police about a cannabis plant in his back garden was fined £200 for cultivation yesterday.
Anthony Harte, 47, from Walton-on-the-Hill, Tadworth, was also fined £100 for having 78.8 grams of cannabis at his home on August 29.
Harte, who was wearing a striped jumper, pleaded guilty to production and possession at South East Surrey Magistrates' Court.
The court heard that Harte told police about the cannabis plant when they executed a search warrant at his house.
Defence lawyer Andy Floyd said smoking one joint in the evening lessened the pain caused by curvature of the spine.
He said: "He planted the seeds as an experiment."
