Croydon North MP Steve Reed was among the borough's great and good recognised in the Queen's latest birthday honours list.
Mr Reed, former deputy chairman of the Local Government Association and chairman of Lambeth Council, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to local government.
Singer and songwriter Adele, a former pupil at Chestnut Grove school in Balham and the BRIT School in Croydon, was also recognised in the list, announced on Saturday.
The star - full name Adele Adkins - was made a Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to music, capping a successful 12 months in which she won two Ivor Novello awards, an Academy Award for her theme to Jame Bond film Skyfall and a BRIT award for best single.
She graduated from the Selhurst performing arts school, where Leona Lewis and Jessie J were her classmates, in 2006.
A lollipop lady, a nurse and a counter-terrorism police sergeant were among the Croydon residents to rewarded for their dedicated service.

Timothy Hemsley, of South Norwood, a sergeant at Sussex Police. For services to policing and counter-terrorism.
John Mellor, of South Norwood, a service manager at the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service. For services to children, young people and families.

June Rixson, of Croydon, a school crossing officer. For services to education and the community in the London Borough of Croydon.
