An MP swapped his suit for overalls as he pitched in to help a rugby club with some DIY.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake got his hands dirty to help Mitcham Rugby Club, based in Carshalton, spend a £500 investment in its facilities as part of the Natwest RugbyForce weekend.

Armed with a scrubbing brush, Mr Brake helped other members of the club repaint changing rooms, decorate the toilets, deep clean the showers and secure the boiler room over the weekend.

Lousie Miller, the club's fundraiser, said: "This investment to our club has meant that we can start the season with refreshed changing rooms. Huge thanks to all who helped out at the club."

Mr Brake added: "It was great to see so many club supporters coming together, all in order to help our much-loved local rugby club. I hope that everyone enjoyed their time spent on cleaning, scrubbing and painting, as much as I did."

"I would like to wish Mitcham Rugby Club best of luck and hope that all the fantastic work done by the volunteers will contribute to the club’s future successes. Go Mitcham Bulls!"

The Natwest RugbyForce weekend was a nationwide event aimed at making rugby clubs into stronger businesses and encouraging community involvement.
