The MP for Sutton and Cheam has shown his support for those living with diabetes.

Paul Burstow has backed the drive to find a cure for the life-threatening condition after he met a young boy who suffers with the condition.

Mr Burstow met Aaron Poston, 10, from Sutton, at a House of Commons charity event on Wednesday, June 12, supporting medical research into Type 1 diabetes.

The youngster told him how diabetes affects his life.

Mr Burstow said: “Type 1 diabetes affects 400,000 people in the UK. Approximately 500 people within Sutton and Cheam will be living with the condition.

“It is not caused by diet or lifestyle, and is most commonly developed in childhood. Those who live with it rely on insulin, via injections or a pump, every day simply to stay alive. That’s why I wanted to demonstrate my support of JDRF’s mission to cure Type 1 diabetes.

“It’s also important to celebrate the successes of the UK’s medical research community, which has pushed forward treatment and improved the lives of people with Type 1 diabetes while the search for the cure continues.”
