The Croydon Council spokesman who explained the reasons behind the decision to replace all the fine old lamp-posts in the borough with anodyne modern ones unaccountably failed to mention one of the principal reasons behind the decision, namely the profit being made by the Council from the sale of the beautiful old lamp-posts for scrap metal.
The disposal of the most important pieces of the Riesco Collection is not the only piece of cultural vandalism currently being perpetrated by Croydon Council.
