Police made nine arrests yesterday in a crime crackdown in New Addington.

Officers seized cocaine, cannabis and stolen SIM cards in a sweep of addresses, including some in Fieldway and Heathfield.

Raids were carried out on ten properties linked to robberies, burglaries, domestic violence, immigration offences and drugs.

Croydon Council Trading Standards officers also took part in the operation and seized counterfeit goods from an address in Headley Drive, as well as visiting previous victims of doorstep scams to offer support and advice.

Metropolitan Police officers also targeted illegal road users in Kent Gate Way, Lodge Lane and Featherbed Lane, seizing seven vehicles without valid insurance.

Local officers from Safer Neighbourhoods Teams patrolled areas beset by anti-social behaviour, including Central Parade.

Safer Transport Team officers patrolled the tram network and made 600 fare checks, fining 38 people for travelling without a valid ticket.

Chief Inspector Malcolm Noone, who led the operation, said: "This operation was about continuing our total war on crime here in Croydon.

"As we’ve done in the past at other locations around the borough, we’ve used a variety of tactics to crack down on offenders and criminal activity - this time focusing in and around the New Addington area.

“We will be continuing with activity like this, not only in New Addington, but across the borough to make life as difficult as possible for those committing crime or antisocial behaviour.”
