Residents left frustrated by the diversion of two bus routes in Addiscombe could face further travel disruption until the end of the year.
In April 2010, a 3.5 ton weight limit was imposed on Spring Lane Bridge after weaknesses were discovered in the beams.
The weight limit was later raised to 7.5 tons, but the increase was not enough to enable the two bus routes that crossed the bridge to continue using it.
The 130 bus route now takes a diversion via Morland Road on its journey to Norwood Junction and the 312 no-longer travels through Ashburton.
Commuters have raised concerns about extended length of time the buses have been on diversion, making trips to Croydon town centre take longer.
Transport for London who are responsible for repairing the bridge, said earlier this year they planned to completely replace the deck which would enable the bridge to cope with weights of up to 40 tons.
The work was expected to take place over the long Easter weekend, but residents were left disappointed when no work was carried out.
Sharon Thompson, TFL's Director of London Tramlink said no decision had been made about how best to repair the bridge.
She said: "TfL is in discussion with Network Rail to decide how to upgrade the bridge to enable the bus diversion to be lifted as soon as possible. We hope to start work before the end of the year."
