We have to continue pointing out the negativities attached to the proposed incinerator for Beddington Lane because so much depends on the outcome.

I am aware Viridor has no intention to sort waste before it is burnt when it arrives by lorry at the plant but I have to say, I was staggered to read in the Environment Agency's Schedule 2 of the draft Environmental Permit for the proposed incinerator in Beddington Lane, that the four pages listing items which will be permitted to be incinerated include virtually all the waste items which could and should be recycled, reused or composted!  This includes and I quote: "wastes from fruit, vegetable, cereal or other vegetable origin material" and "wastes from pulp, paper and cardboard production and processing", and "wastes from the textile industry including organic matter from natural products." The list goes on and on.

So what will happen now to the key recycling targets aimed for by the South London Waste Plan (SLWP) when it is unlikely that anyone will bother with recycling etc. because it will not be expected anymore as it will be so much easier to send it all to burn?

Don't you think the SLWP together with the Environment Agency have lost the plot completely if they think they are going to save the planet like this? And that is before we take into account all the hazards burning waste is renowned for!

Is there anyone out there who can rescue us? I am praying very hard.
