An MP is organising a jobs fair this week to help get the borough’s next generation back into work.

Steve Reed, MP for Croydon North, is hosting the fair on June 28 at Croydon College between 10am and 3pm and is open to anyone aged between 18-24.

Croydon North has the eighth highest number of unemployed youngsters out of London’s 73 constituencies according to Mr Reed.

More than 900 young people are out of work in the constituency, which makes up nearly half of the 2,015 young people in the borough.

The MP said the aim of the jobs fair is to connect young people with employers who are looking to fill job vacancies or apprenticeships.

Croydon College will also offer CV writing tips to those who attend as well as help filling in job application forms.

Mr Reed is also hosting an employment summit as well as the jobs fair. This is taking place at Croydon College and brings together a wide range of businesses to discuss how they can work together to get Croydon residents back into work.

Steve Reed MP said: "Throughout the by-election campaign the number one issue residents raised with me was youth unemployment.

"Our young people are being let down and left behind and we simply cannot allow a whole generation to be thrown on the scrap-heap.

"I’m using my position as MP to bring together local organisations, businesses and community groups to find ways we can work together to give our young people back the future they deserve."
