Croydon bin collection workers have cancelled their three-day strike next week.
Walk-outs were due to take place on July 2, 3 and 4 but they have now been postponed while the union Unite continue to negotiate a better pay deal.
The union is looking for a pay rise of three per cent from their employers, Veolia Environmental Services.
Workers were told yesterday that the strike had been called off but the union then said it was back on again after talks broke down.
Talks are now being held through the ACAS arbitration service.
Veolia have also extended the time limit of potential strike action from the union by 21 days, said Onay Kasab, Unite’s regional officer.
He said the extension was slightly less than 21 days as the union have to give a seven-day notice if they are going to strike.
Once the time limit is reached, the union will have to go to ballot again if they want to strike.
