Thousands of pounds worth of designer goods have been seized in a car boot sale raid.

Two car boot sellers are being investigated and two more have been warned after 23 pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, MAC, YSL, Chanel and Christian Dior make-up and suspect DVDs were seized by police.

The operation involving Sutton Trading Standards and Sutton Police targeted the car boot sale at St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls, in Carshalton, on Sunday, June 23.

PC Phil Hedges of Sutton Police said: “We hope this good work sends out the message that if you break the law you will be caught.”

The unannounced raid was the first of a series planned over the summer during which the team will be hunting for counterfeit, unsafe or stolen goods.

Councillor Richard Clifton, Sutton Council’s lead member for trading standards, said: “Counterfeit goods are not a good deal.

"They are often of very poor quality and can be very dangerous. By all means go along to a car boot sale and find a bargain, but steer clear of the dodgy dealers.”
