As a mother, teacher and resident of Croydon I am delighted to hear that proposals have been put forward for five more new schools in Croydon.  Even better, that the council is putting its money where its mouth is and committed to investing  an additional £10m on top of the £162m it has already planned to spend by 2016.

With pupil numbers on the increase in Croydon, these new schools are vital to support managing this growth in learners and resources required for them.

With Croydon recently being so successful in receiving the largest government grant in the country to support its school building programme it is fantastic to see investment in children and young people who are our future. A stomping £63m will be added to support this proposal if the council’s bid is approved!

I’m particularly excited to hear that Croydon Council is looking to develop/convert existing buildings for four of the five new schools.  Buildings such as SeGAS House that has sat dormat and empty for years will be brought back to life with young people – a tremendous use of a listed building.

Well done Croydon Council officials for looking to invest in the future generations of Croydon – our children and young people, rather than quick fix measures that don’t work!

Yours sincerely
