Police are concerned about the safety of two missing girls from Croydon.

Friends Shyaine Winston, 14 and Anna Gomes, 12 left their homes to go to their respective schools on Monday morning between 7.15am and 8.30am but they did not arrive.

They are believed to be together and still in London but may try to travel to the Manchester area.

They have never gone missing before, police say.

Shyaine is described as black, slim and was wearing school uniform consisting of a dark blue jumper with red motif, blue and white chequered shirt and pleated dark blue skirt above the knee.

She also had on black tights and plain black shoes, each with a gold bow on them.

Anna is white and was wearing a grey hooded top with a white blouse, black shoes and black trousers.

She is of medium build with long brown hair usually in a bun.

Both girls have taken other clothing with them.

Detective Inspector Clare Mullenger, from Croydon police, said: "There is no suggestion the girls have come to any harm but obviously their families are desperately worried about them and want them home.

"We would ask Shyaine and Anna to please contact us or anyone else who has information or may have seen them."

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Croydon police on 0203 276 2264.
