Homes in Cobham are among the most expensive in Surrey at nearly £1m a property, figures have revealed.

Property website Zoopla.co.uk estimates that the average house in Cobham costs £887,672, while the average asking price in the county is just below £700,000.

Prices of properties across the whole county have increased by 2.62 per cent in the last 12 months, meaning about £11,433 has been added to selling prices, the website states.

Cobham also has one of the highest turnover numbers in Surrey at 16.8 per cent.

Turnover is calculated by dividing the number of sales over the last five years, excluding new builds, by the number of homes in the area.

Mike Bennison, mayor of Elmbridge and councillor for Cobham and Downside, said: “Cobham is the most idyllic place so where else would you want to live?

“My heart is in Cobham. It is such a beautiful place to live with lovely people and lots of people want to live here. It is situated by the wonderful countryside, we have really nice shops and it has great history. It has just got everything going for it.

“I am really proud to be a councillor in Cobham.”

Cobham was beaten to the top spot by Virginia Water, where houses sell for an average of £1.06m.

Four other areas of Elmbridge also made the top ten, with Esher coming third with an average property value of £813,132, Weybridge at £688,865, East Molesey at £661,639 and Thames Ditton at £570,995.

The figures also estimate that Walton properties have an average value of £477,111 and those in West Molesey average at £321,941.
