International players and champions of touchtennis descended on Weybridge for a tournament ahead of the Wimbledon finals.

Churchfields Recreation Ground hosted the tournament on June 29 and 30, which attracted 80 entrants, including top international players and champions.

Much like the Wimbledon final between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, there were heart-stopping moments out on the courts, which had been marked out by Elmbridge Council for the occasion.

Jonathan Shacklady and Simon Roberts warmed up the crowd with a victory in the doubles match before Marcus Willis battled his way through to the final after winning with a straight set.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “There was an amazing atmosphere at the touchtennis tournament and it was great to see so many champions battling it out on the courts.

“Touchtennis is a very exciting sport and Churchfields Recreation Ground is the ideal site to play the game”.
