A woman who thought she had won a barbecue at a cricket tournament charity raffle was shocked to find she had actually won a £10,000 car.

Lynette Wibberley, of Green Lanes, Epsom, was told that she had won a barbecue at the event hosted by taxi company Roadrunners Gatwick on June 30.

Operations manager Jed Hindley said: "The owner of our business, Muz Hassain, knocked on her door and explained that the BBQ was coming!

"We then turned up in the car for her. As you can imagine she was quite shocked."

He said they brought the Toyota Aygo themselves and painted the wing mirrors green in the style of their taxi fleet.

Mrs Wibberley, who works as a learning support assistant, said: “I was grateful to have won a barbecue so it was a really, really nice surprise.

“They kept up the pretense right until they arrived at my door. It was amazing. I couldn’t believe it. I think I was in shock.”

She said her son is taking driving lessons at the moment and he can have her old Micra.

She said: “It’s absolutely brilliant. It couldn’t have come at a better time. I can’t thank them enough.”

The cricket tournament was held in Langley Green, Crawley, in aid of St Catharine’s Hospice based in Crawley.
