People are being encouraged to speak up about inaccessible websites.

Richmond Council has launched a campaign to identify sites that are hard to use as it recognises the borough is home to the largest number of over-85s in London, many of whom have sight problems.

The trading standards team wants people to help them identify sites that fail to provide an accessibility tab, use small text that is not legible, have poor colour contrast or hide contact information and company details.

Councillor David Marlow, cabinet member for adult services and housing, said: “The internet is an essential resource, and its content should be readily accessible to all residents.

“This is a very important campaign, and I would encourage anyone who has difficulty using a particular site to let Trading Standards know about it so we can improve the online experience for all.”
