A teenager told a police interviewer that she had called Childline to report allegations of sexual abuse but felt that she was seen to be “taking the mick”.

Jurors were shown a recorded video interview of a female teenager taken in 2011, at Kingston Crown Court today.

Michael Hopkins, 63, of Church Road in Worcester Park, denies 19 counts of sexual and indecent assault against five children between the ages of six and 12.

The teenager, who can not be named for legal reasons, said she called Childline with another girl.

She said: “We...called Childline but they just thought we were taking the mick.

“I think they took it as a joke because we were both talking at the same time and trying to get our words in.”

She added that she only realised the touching was inappropriate after speaking to friends and believed it had been happening since she was six or seven years old.

The underage girl said: “I was young I thought this is what they do.”

Mr Hopkins dressed in a dark grey shirt and black trousers but had his head down most of the time with nobody present in the public gallery.

In the video she described Mr Hopkins regularly “groping” her breasts and touching her “private bits”.

She said: “He used to just like do weird things to me. He used to grope me. He used an excuse and squeezed us by our private bits. Like from the inside of our thigh – he just used to grab it and squeeze it really hard.”

But she said that this did not happen to her on bare skin.

The young girl also told the interviewer that she was punched in the head by Mr Hopkins after an argument about Facebook.

She also recalled Mr Hopkins trying to kiss her.

She said: “He started crying and sobbing and then flung himself on me.

"He went for a hug then tried to kiss me on the lips but like proper – like a snog.”

Recalling her feelings at the time she said she felt scared and freaked out because “he would keep an eagle eye”.

She said: “I hate him. Because he has just messed everything up.”

The trial is expected to last another five weeks.
