The grieving family of a student who died after coming off his motorbike have remembered an "amazing, generous and warm" man.

Hassan Rashid was travelling down Central Hill, Upper Norwood, when he came off his motorbike close to the junction with South Vale, shortly after 9.30am on Sunday morning.

Police, London Ambulance and London's Air Ambulance were called to the scene and found the motorbike crashed into a nearby wall.

Emergency staff made extensive efforts to resuscitate the 25-year-old but he was pronounced dead at the scene, by the doctor from the Air Ambulance.

Mr Rashid, who lived in Streatham, had recently completed the first year of a Business Management degree at Greenwich University.

In a statement his family said: "Hassan was much loved by all his family and friends. He was a caring person who would often go out of his way to help others in society, especially those who were less fortunate than himself.

"He will forever be in our hearts and prayers, we pray God have mercy on his soul and accept him in his presence."

When visiting the scene of the crash, the family said they had been told by witnesses Mr Rashid came off his bike after hitting a pothole.

His sister Sabreena Shabazz, said: "The police say he appears to have lost control but he was a very experienced rider. Residents have said this is not the first collision caused by someone hitting the pot hole.

"We will wait for the police investigation, but if the pot hole played a part it is something we will be taking further with the council."

A police spokesman said: "Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Catford are investigating. Enquiries continue."

A post-mortem examination was held at Croydon Mortuary on Tuesday, July 9. The cause of death was given as severe head, chest and abdominal injuries.

An inquest into his death will be opened and adjourned on Wednesday July 10.
