Further to your article in the June 27 issue (Cat owner warns of spate of fox attacks), I would like to add my experiences with them.
They have lived in my garden for many years. Their cubs were born there. They always showed respect for my cats. Consequently, I gave them dog food.
In March 2012 I saw one on top of my elderly moggie. He had leukaemia but, with chemo, he had been well for a year. One bite to the neck had killed him outright.
In March this year I found my 13-month-old Turkish van kitten with similar wounds. Luckily the vet was able to save her - although it looked doubtful at first.
According to Graham of Fox Agone, only the elderly, infirm, weak and kittens are normally at risk, mainly between March and June when the foxes are protecting their cubs. We must be particularly careful at this time.
