I have just read your news article about motorcycle crash in Upper Norwood on Sunday.
I live on South Vale and you should know there is a history of accidents and tragedies at that bend in Central Hill.
For more than 10 years, myself and other residents of South Vale have been canvassing Croydon Council to make that bend safe, to slow down the traffic.
It is frustrating as they take ages to repair things, and never try to solve the underlying problems.
Traffic comes round that point at terrifying speeds. Basic street calming measures were introduced many years ago, but were never enough.
The traffic island further up Central Hill is dangerous and exposed and often gets hit in traffic collisions and the bollards along the pavement regularly get crushed. For years we canvassed for a pedestrian crossing, something that is really needed, as many children cross Central Hill to get to school.
The priority seems to be optimising the traffic flow through the Triangle, sadly this seems more important than safety or quality of life.
I know of three fatalities at or around this stretch over the past 10 years. There are many more I am sure.
Perhaps this awful tragedy can force the Council/ Councillors into action.
