Sutton's war memorials will get a deep clean ahead of next year's 70th anniversary of D-Day and the start of the Great War.
At last week's Strategy and Resources Committee meeting at Sutton Council, councillors approved £2m to be spent on various environmental improvements, which include the cleaning of the war memorials in Carshalton and Wallington.
A council spokeswoman said: "£2m has been allocated for environmental improvements within the borough.
"The details of the specific works are currently being considered, but they will include investment in the borough’s war memorials to commemorate the centenary of the start of the Great War in 2014."
