Upon return from a tour in Africa, Mitcham hip hop artist Potent Whisper is set to begin a series of performances in France.

A former BRIT school pupil, the 23-year-old has been making a name for himself away from the UK but is back in London next week performing at the Festival Hall.

Before he launched the European leg of his tour he spoke to the Wimbledon Guardian’s Smriti Gopal.

SG: "You have been touring recently - have you any new music set to be released?"

PW: "On June 10th I released new music video One Second Chance. I have had a positive response to date and it seems to be a song that a lot of people can associate with."

SG: "Where can your fans view this music video?"

PW: "This music video was shot in real-time by Andrew Jenner and it is available on my website for fans to view and download."

SG: "We know you spent time at the BRIT School - what sort of training did you receive?"

PW: "I actually studied Theatre at the BRIT School, not music. The training I received in theatre was thorough and brilliant, but with regards to music I have not had any formal training at any stage. My musical development and inspiration has come from being surrounded by other musicians and creative people in general."

SG: "How do you take time out of your busy schedule to relax? And what do you do in your spare time?"

PW: "Music is my passion and I create music on a full time basis. I don't need to take time out to relax when I enjoy what I am doing. I also teach lyricism and rap to students nationally and internationally with a brilliant charity by the name of Raw Material."
